The journey of an aspiring photographer

Thanks for visiting my portfolio. I am a aspiring photographer based in Amsterdam the Netherlands.

I'd been interested in photography for a long time - magazines like National Geographic, events like World Press Photo, and the work of photographers like Anton Corbijn, Peter Coulson, Dan Winters, Andy Gotts, and later Sean Tucker, Peter Hurley and Lindsay Adler. At the start of 2026 I could finally afford a decent second-hand DSLR, so I picked one up.

I always assumed I'd end up in nature photography, or maybe street photography - partly because of my father, who used to take great photos of distinctive strangers while on holiday. But my first real goal was simpler: to take a good portrait of my parents while I still could. I signed up for a photography course, had a good time, and came away with some pictures I was happy with.

My mother passed away in early 2026, before we got the chance to do a proper session. What I have of her is from her final days, taken in a more ad hoc setting. The session with my father happened as planned, and it's still one of the things I'm most glad I did.

That's what pulled me toward portraits and fashion photography, where you have control over the light. I still have an interest in the other fields, but my focus now is people in a studio like setting - which at the moment is nothing more than my living room, cleared into a 3x3m space when I need it.

Later I followed a second course, this one on art nude. Not something I'd planned to get into, but it was the only other course available there, so why not. Body shapes are a thing of beauty, and the best way to celebrate that is to present them as well as I can. While it is not my only or even main focus, it is now part of my repertoire.

I do have one rule for myself, though. If I'm going to be someone who photographs people nude, I only want to do it in a way that shows them at their best; Their power, confidence and beauty. Not to arouse the viewer, and not to make work that reinforces the patriarchal society we already have plenty of. Whether I manage that is for the viewer to judge.
